Manager of Advancement Services

Nebraska Wesleyan University seeks applications for a Manager of Advancement Services within the Office of Advancement. The position is responsible for conducting data management and analysis, managing data systems, and providing research support for strategic planning and data comparison including critical biographic and personal data relevant to constituent records. The position is also responsible for developing, refining and documenting business processes to effectively manage and analyze data. The incumbent will collect, maintain, and prepare standard and specialized data reports for the Advancement team, President’s Office and Business and Finance Office. In addition, this position will manage the team responsible for Advancement Information Systems, constituent records, and gift accounting.
The position will develop and use customized reports from relational databases to extract and collect data using data systems and tools including SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Microsoft Dynamics 365. The generated analysis provides support for institutional and departmental strategic planning, constituent files, and data comparison including critical biographic and personal data relevant to constituent records; therefore, the successful candidate will possess a high level of confidentiality, initiative, and self-motivation.

- Leads and manages a team of 2+ staff responsible for data entry, gift processing, reporting, and data integrity.
- Oversees data management and performs system administration for Advancement Information System (Ellucian CRM Advance), verifies data input, and corrects errors as identified
- Develops, queries, cleans, and analyzes datasets from internal and external data sources to be used in various data/report requests.
- Maintains constituent records and files, manages data requests and creates and runs reports, and assists with annual updates
- Collects relevant data and lists, manages data entry, and maintains and reports on constituent information by working with other university departments and colleagues
- Effectively organizes, summarizes, and communicates data results in tables, charts, and other documents
- Develops, refines and documents business processes and procedures for the effective use of Ellucian CRM Advance.
- Works collaboratively with Advancement and University staff on accurately maintaining, monitoring, and updating constituent records ensuring consistency, integrity and confidentiality of constituent data.
- Develop procedures and processes for maintaining critical biographic data relevant to constituent records within the Colleague database, including contact information, employment/career, relationships, awards/honors, affiliations, etc. Manages request system for constituent information.
- Manages relationships with vendors on behalf of the Advancement Office.
- Complies with CASE, IRS and office standards, policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and implements scheduled NCOA and other vendor data update processes.
- Adheres to established audit controls, security measures and confidentiality/privacy standards.
- Prepares an annual plan of work including specific goals, expected results, standards of performance and budgetary needs
- Completes and reports on tasks related to Advancement Services data quality initiatives, including list management
- Works as a member of the Advancement Leadership team to determine data, reports and analytics needs
- Ensures tracking process and reporting is in place, and identifies and prioritizes work and projects for advancement services staff according to volume and need
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is preferred, relevant work experience may be considered as a substitute
- 3+ years of experience in a data-reporting, data-management or data-analysis role, or related experience involving data collection analysis, interpretation, and presentation of quantified data.
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or Informer 5 data querying
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform
- Experience in creation and use of relational database systems
- Demonstrates critical thinking, time management, and ability to troubleshoot complex reports and analytical issues with data
- Demonstrates the ability to multitask and manage several projects at once
- Demonstrates good organizational, writing, and proofreading skills; must be detail oriented, adaptable, and flexible; and work in an environment with multiple interruptions
- Possess good interpersonal communication skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills. Experience with technical documentation is a plus
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain and be responsible for confidential information
Preference will be given for:
- Experience in higher education sector, especially related to gift entry and data management
- Experience with Ellucian CRM Advance or other relational database systems used in Advancement
- Power Platform and MS Dynamics 365
- Significant proficiency with other data analytic or report writing software
