Faculty Scholarship Presentation Award: Patrick Hayden-Roy presents, "Martin Luther, Nazi Hero?"
Time: 7:00pm
Location: Callen Conference Room

Martin Luther (1483-1546) was one of the most famous figures of German and World History, famed for challenging the medieval Catholic Church and setting in motion the Protestant Reformation. However, during the period leading up and going into the Third Reich his image was refashioned to make him into the symbol of German racial nationalism. How and why did that happen, and what was its role in securing public support for the Nazi movement? This presentation will trace the development of Luther as he became a tool to promote, among other things, the genocidal policies of Hitler's regime. In looking at this episode of the past, we will also be able to consider the political dynamics at work in our own times
