Adam Earnheardt, associate professor of communication studies at Youngstown State University, will share his research about social media, athletes and sports fans at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s annual Lambda Pi Eta Honorary lecture.

Earnheardt’s lecture, “#Winning: How (Pro)Social Media are Connecting Athletes, Teams and Fans,” will be held Wednesday, February 18 at 2 p.m. in Olin B Lecture Hall, located one block east of 50th Street and St. Paul Ave.

In 2009, Earnheardt was recognized as one of the top 40 professionals under the age of 40 by the MVP 20/30 Club in northeast Ohio, and selected as one of the top five MVPs for his work in the community and for achievements as a scholar and teacher. He served as executive director of the Ohio Communication Association and as chair of the National Communication Association’s Mass Communication Division.

He is the author of “Sports Fans, Identity, and Socialization: Exploring the Fandemonium,” and has served as an expert source on social media, sports and fandom on various television and radio programs, and in publications and newspapers including Parade Magazine, Psychology Today, Baltimore Sun Times and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Wesleyan Communication Association sponsors the annual Lambda Pi Eta Honorary lecture, which brings to campus experts in the communication field.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
