Nebraska Wesleyan University has renewed agreements with two Nebraska community colleges to help strengthen students’ paths to degree completion.
On February 12, Nebraska Wesleyan University President Darrin Good renewed Pathways Scholarship agreements with Southeast Community College President Paul Illich and Central Community College President Matt Gotschall.
The Pathways Scholarship provides two paths to degree completion at Nebraska Wesleyan with financial benefits including a $15,000 scholarship to every admitted SCC and CCC student to NWU’s traditional undergraduate program or a reduced tuition rate of $25 per credit hour to those who enroll in the accelerated bachelor’s degree-completion program for working adults in Lincoln or Omaha.
Since establishing the Pathways Scholarship agreements in 2017, 982 SCC students have transferred over 37,500 credit hours and maintained an average GPA of 3.3 at NWU. During that same time, 288 CCC students transferred nearly 6,000 credit hours and maintained at 3.4 GPA at NWU.
Good — who is serving his first year as president — cited small classes, personal attention and academic excellence as three key components found at NWU and at SCC and CCC.
“We’re proud of the opportunity that the Pathways Scholarship has provided to community college students,” said Good. “In addition to providing important financial resources, the program has provided a seamless transition to so many students who have truly excelled academically and graduated with outstanding outcomes.”
In renewing the agreement, Good celebrated Nebraska Wesleyan’s newest scholarships for students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa, an academic honorary for community college students. NWU now offers a $17,000 scholarship to Phi Theta Kappa members. PTK students also have the opportunity to compete for one full tuition scholarship awarded annually.
“We’re grateful for the continued partnerships with SCC and CCC, and we look forward to welcoming more community college students to NWU,” said Good.
