Scheduled test of Federal emergency alert systems tomorrow (10/4)

Published

There will be a scheduled test of federal government emergency alert systems tomorrow - Wednesday, 10/4 - at 2:20pm ET (1:20pm CT).

Two federal government alerting systems will be tested simultaneously.  The Emergency Alert Systems (EAS) will send a test message to all radios and televisions.  The Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) will send out an alert to consumer cell phones.  Both tests will be done at the same time.

The testing is being conducted by the federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is coordinated with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to assure that the systems continue to provide a timely alerting service, particularly in the event of a national level emergency.
