Two Nebraska Wesleyan University seniors have each been awarded a scholarship from the Nebraska State Education Association's (NSEA) Retired Board of Directors.
Melissa Sorensen of Orchard and Brittnie Kreikemeier of Dodge have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Each year the NSEA-Retired Board of Directors awards three scholarships to the most qualified candidates. To qualify, students are to be juniors and seniors who have been Nebraska Student Education Association (SEAN) members for at least two years; scholarships are awarded on both financial need and essay question answers; and on three letters of recommendation.
The $1,000 scholarship is effective during the students' student teaching semester.
Sorensen will student teach next fall. She is majoring in elementary education/special education K-6. Sorensen is active in the Nebraska Student Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Wesleyan Alumni Student Association, Colleges Against Cancer, Health and Human Performance Club, and runs track for the Prairie Wolves.
Kreikemeier will also student teach next fall. She is an elementary education/ELL major and has been named to the University's academic honors list.
This marks the first time that two NWU students have received the NSEA-Retired Board of Directors Scholarship in the same year.
