Two years after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, 19-year-old Kevin Hines attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. He is one of only 34 survivors.
Hines now dedicates his life to saving lives by spreading the message of hope and sharing his art of living mentally well. He will share that message at Nebraska Wesleyan University on Monday, October 3.
Hines is a mental health advocate, award-winning speaker, best-selling author and documentary filmmaker who reaches audiences with his story of an unlikely survival and his strong will to live. He is the only Golden Gate Bridge survivor to regain full physical mobility.
He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Council of Behavioral Health, an Achievement Winner by the US Veterans Affairs and is a recipient of several military medals. His story was featured in the critically-acclaimed film, “The Bridge.” In 2013 Hines released his bestselling memoir, “Cracked Not Broken, Surviving and Thriving After a Suicide Attempt.”
Hines’ presentation begins at 7 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium, located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts at 50th Street and Huntington Ave. The lecture is free and open to the public.
