More than 40 people from 17 countries will take their Oath of Allegiance and become naturalized United States citizens when Nebraska Wesleyan University hosts a naturalization ceremony on Tuesday, September 17.
United States District Judge John Gerrard will preside in the public ceremony, which begins at 1:30 p.m. in O'Donnell Auditorium.
The ceremony will include the presentation, "What It Means to be an American," by NWU senior Tram Kieu who was naturalized in 1998. NWU senior Cao Nguyen will perform patriotic music. Nguyen is among the 40 people being naturalized. Judge Gerrard will give remarks and lead the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by the new citizens.
The naturalization ceremony also coincides with Constitution Day, a day set aside to observe the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.
O'Donnell Auditorium is located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave. inside the Rogers Center for Fine Arts.
