Pioneer Hall — a 58-year-old traditional residence hall for first-year students — is undergoing a $2.3 million facelift.
Construction crews began the renovation in January. Upon its completion this summer, Pioneer Hall will have modernized rooms, new heating and cooling units, and an elevator will be installed.
The three-story building will be remodeled with student needs in mind. For example, the residence hall will have a technology theme and will be equipped with high-density wireless Internet so students have access to the necessary technology needed where they live and learn. Collaborative study spaces will also be incorporated to allow students better opportunities to work together on research and projects.
“This renovation is an important piece to our strategic plan, Archways 2017, and the campus master plan,” said Provost Judy Muyskens.
Just two years ago Nebraska Wesleyan remodeled Johnson Hall, the university’s oldest residence hall for female students.
Pioneer Hall will re-open when new students arrive in August.
