A college student whose testimony before the Iowa House Judiciary Committee regarding gay marriage went viral will share a message about family at an upcoming Nebraska Wesleyan University lecture.
Zach Wahls will deliver the lecture, “What Makes a Family?” on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium.
In January 2011, Wahls — the son of two lesbian mothers — shared a passionate plea with Iowa lawmakers to support gay marriage. His testimony marked the first time he talked openly and candidly about his family in a public setting. Two days after he testified during that hearing, a YouTube video of his testimony went viral, garnering two million views with millions more via social media, national and international media, and other online media.
Since then, Wahls has traveled the country advocating for family and families like his. He is the author of “My Two Moms.”
He lecture will include stories of his family’s highs and lows, laughs and tribulations.
Wahls was recently included in Campus Pride’s exclusive “2012 Hot List” featuring the top 25 most inspiring, enlightening and provocative national speakers and activists.
O’Donnell Auditorium is located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave. The lecture is free and open to the public. A book-signing will follow.
